Steeped in History
Founded in 1889 by the nuns of the Congregation of Christian Education, this former convent and later ladies’ boarding and day school has now been completely redeveloped to provide modern homes of an uncompromising quality.
Retaining many of its original features, from the grand entrance and clock tower to the vaulted timber ceilings and Gothic screen, its stunning proportions provide a unique backdrop to the modern homes designed within.
While the rich Victorian architecture has been lovingly refurbished to its former glory, the apartments it now houses are resolutely modern.
Conceived specifically to respond to the demands of a 21st century lifestyle, the carefully considered interiors have been designed to optimise convenience and quality of life, creating a stylish, easily maintained living space that’s perfect for relaxing in.
On Your Doorstep
Conveniently located for Farnborough town centre, with The Meads and Queensmead shopping centres just a few minutes’ walk, The Convent is perfectly positioned to benefit from the town’s continuing renaissance.
With its own airport, trendy hotels and a vibrant business centre, Farnborough is surrounded by rolling Hampshire countryside. Its rich heritage and worldwide reputation for the International Air Show underpins its thriving cultural life, soon to be reflected in the regeneration of the town centre, where a new town square will be surrounded by arts venues and a range of indoor and outdoor cafés and restaurants.
With the Queensmead shopping centre already revitalised, work on The Meads already underway and a new seven-screen Vue cinema opening in 2014, Farnborough town centre will soon be established as a modern thriving destination - an attractive place to live, work, shop and relax. While the town is well-equipped to offer day-to-day services and more,
Farnborough’s proximity to London - and the ease of commute - makes The Convent’s location even more desirable.
The historic market towns of Guildford and Farnham both offer sophisticated shopping and culture, complete with traditional cafés, bistros and an eclectic array of elegant restaurants and bars; almost every conceivable luxury high street name has a presence here, while their quaint side-streets and stable yards spill over with café seating and overflowing flower stalls.
Both offer abundant green areas, outstanding schools and a wide selection of cultural and leisure facilities, including a choice of theatres, galleries and cinemas, the leisure centres, golf clubs and even a Lido.
Closer to home, the Yateley Common Country Park offers 476 acres of heathland, woods, grasslands and ponds for you to explore. Southwood Golf Club is ideal for a round of golf with friends or colleagues, while the Basingstoke Canal towpath provides a leisurely walk amidst beautiful scenery.
Centrally located, Farnborough’s excellent road and cycle networks and regular bus and train services make it equally easy to reach central London and the South Coast, while proximity to major airports facilitates international air travel.
Travelling by Air
Five minutes from The Convent is Farnborough Airport or TAG London Farnborough Airport, a high-end general aviation airport which deals in chartered or private flights. For more conventional flights, Heathrow is just half an hour away, Southampton and Gatwick airports are less than an hour.
Travelling by Rail
The Convent is ideal for commuting: only 0.7 miles away and less than 15 minutes walk, Farnborough mainline station provides fast direct services to London Waterloo, with four trains per hour taking from 34 minutes. There are also services to Reading, Guildford and Gatwick Airport from Farnborough North station.
Travelling by Road
The Convent is well positioned for access to both London and the South Coast, with direct access to Farnborough Road and junction 4 of the M3 just over 2 miles away. Central London is 39 miles, Camberley 4.6 miles, Farnham 6.9 miles and Guildford 13 miles, while both Woking and Basingstoke can be reached in approximately half an hour.

With a background of breathing new life into historic buildings, Michael Arnold, the developments’ project director comments,
“It is a real privilege to work with such a beautiful building and to create a sustainable future for a local landmark. We are taking every care to retain the character of the building with all of its splendid features while at the same time introducing the latest infrastructure and technologies, and delivering exceptional modern living spaces.”
Previous developments by JIT Farnborough
Burlington Mansions (above), was originally a 200 bedroom hotel, designed in 1893 by Thomas Collcutt, Chairman of the R.I.B.A., and designer of the Imperial Institute for Queen Victoria was converted into 94 apartments. The grandeur of the Grade II Listed hotel building was retained whilst sensitive conversion has resulted in luxury homes, many enjoying glorious views of Poole Bay and the Purbeck coastline.
Spencer Terrace and Redgate House in Bognor Regis are important Grade II Listed buildings; built by Sir Richard Hotham in 1787 as furnished apartments for the Landed gentry they were later used for over 100 years as schools. An imaginative restoration and conversion, into 25 residential units, using skilled craftsmen and traditional methods, has created what is now recognised by the local council to be ‘the best part of the town’.
Woodford House is located in Bognor Regis close to Spencer Terrace and Redgate House and was scheduled for demolition before JIT created an innovative plan for transforming this ex-toilet block into three neo-Georgian townhouses. For this creative reimagining JIT received a design award from Arun District Council in recognition of the quality of their design and craftsmanship.
Cedar House, Branksome Park, Poole, was built at the turn of the century as a splendid Edwardian country house near to the sea it was also Lord Louis Mountbatten’s summer residence. JIT has sympathetically restored this beautiful property as 5 highly desirable, 2 bedroom apartments and a Coach House retaining many original features.
Springhill House was built in 1900 and comprised four large townhouses with views over Swanage town to the sea, the Isle of Wight and the Purbeck hills. Restored and converted into 19 elegant two-bedroom apartments and a four bedroom Town House. JIT was able to retain many of the original features making this a truly distinctive property.
