Every other week we shine the spotlight on a different individual within our team. Across our branch network, and within our Lettings, Land and Management teams, we have an experienced and passionate group of people working hard to sell and let property, promote it effectively and make our clients’ lives that little bit easier.
This week we’re turning to our Hook branch to introduce newcomer Kris Holmes. Kris has only been with us since the start of the year but is already making some great impressions on the company and the local community.
Kris has not always been an agent, prior to his time in the industry he ran a children’s home for young people with autism, a drastic career change some might say. However, it was the opportunity to try and change the stereotype that can often be attached to estate agents that drew Kris to the property world. He wanted to show that as an industry we do care and take pride in what we do, as opposed to some of the critical views that are sometimes placed on the industry as a whole.
Since becoming an agent, Kris has worked for both commercial and independent firms, this experience led him to Mackenzie Smith, as he would now choose independent every time. “One of the key things for me was to join a company that shared the same attitude; providing outstanding customer service and realising that every transaction has the potential to lead to repeat business several years down the line, each client is the most important person in the world.”
Kris’ favourite part of the job is split in two, but both with the same end goal – a satisfied client. Negotiating on behalf of a client is always a highlight for Kris, getting someone the price they want for a property, and then handing the keys over to the new owner at the end of the sale… two happy parties and a job well done.
However, as often seen in this challenging role, life is not always plain sailing. One memorable sale for Kris was exceptionally challenging; a unique property in Eversley which proved difficult in attracting the right buyer. Once the buyer was found, the process remained turbulent with difficulties on both ends of the chain forcing the hands of both the buyer and vendor. The sale fell through on numerous occasions, but this did not detract Kris from the task on hand and through some serious negotiating and problem-solving, the property was successfully sold to the original buyers.
Whilst Kris is a newcomer to our office in Hook, he is no stranger to the area and loves the village and surrounding neighbourhoods. “There is a real sense of community in every village, the majority of residents stay put for the long haul, so it’s great to introduce new people to the area knowing they’ll likely be here for a long time.”
When Kris isn’t busy negotiating and selling houses, he’s a keen sportsman, playing football each week in addition to some intrepid mountain biking. When he is in one place for more than five minutes, there’s nothing he enjoys more than settling down with a good book, or researching somewhere new to visit.
