Our spotlight articles are a great way of introducing new members of staff, colleagues that are usually ‘behind the scenes’ and highlighting the variety of tasks our team embrace in their everyday work. Tracey Easton plays an invaluable role in the day-to-day operations of Mackenzie Smith, along with being a driving force towards future progression of the company.

Tracey recently celebrated her 10 year anniversary with the company, having originally joined in 2007. Tracey manages a wide variety of roles as our HR Manager and Financial Controller, whilst leading the company forward in a Directorial role. When she first joined us, she may not have realised quite what she had let herself in for. “When I joined, back in July 2007, I was looking for a local admin role to fit around school hours. I had never considered working for an Estate Agents before, however, following the interview, the company’s core values and mission really appealed to me.”

Tracey joined Mackenzie Smith with a strong background of diverse skills; including customer service, complaint management and administration. “It was never my plan to get into finance or HR, but when both opportunities became available within the company, I decided to take up the challenge both for my own personal growth and progression, but to also assist in filling the roles. I put myself through evening classes at my local college for about 6 years in order to gain the relevant recognised qualifications in both areas.”

Managing the finances and employment at Mackenzie Smith is no easy feat, with six branches, a Lettings Department, Land Department and Marketing team. “With a role that’s so varied, I enjoy different aspects of both sides of my work. From a financial perspective, I enjoy the strategy of budgeting and saving money so that we can invest it better elsewhere within the company, whilst on the HR side I love developing and exploring ways to make working lives better. Whilst the variety each day is a great benefit of the role, my biggest challenge is that there are never enough hours in the day to get everything done!”

Having studied further to progress in her career, Tracey is a strong advocate for self-progression and further education, “I’ve recently studied an NLP Coaching and Mentoring Certificate (Neuro Linguistic Programming), which I enjoy practicing. In my spare time I enjoy yoga and meditation.”

With Mackenzie Smith now in its 26th year, the business is constantly evolving, with the recent branch opening at Yateley and continual investment in new technology, new premises and new people. “My hope for the future is that we continue to attract and retain highly talented individuals to provide our clients with exceptional service; ultimately enabling us to grow the company further.”
