Our spotlight series takes a look at a different employee within Mackenzie Smith every other week. Across all departments and all job roles, each person at Mackenzie Smith has a story behind their career so far, this week we’re introducing Paul Phelan, Senior Client Manager in Yateley.

Paul is one of our newest recruits, having joined us roughly one month ago, but brings with him over three decades of experience, working within the local area.

As an experienced agent, there’s little that Paul hasn’t come across. “I started my career in 1987 in Ash Vale, just before the property boom of joint tax relief. In the time that’s followed I’ve worked through the ups and downs of the industry.” Having navigated his way through diverse market conditions, Paul is well-placed to offer confident advice, regardless of any given climate.

With 30 years behind him, it’s quite remarkable that Paul joined the world of estate agency by pure chance, as he thought the job was for a travel agent! You could argue that there are some similarities in the roles, some of the crossover features also happen to be the favourite aspects of the job for Paul. “We meet such a mixture of people every single day, it’s great to be able to offer help and advice to both those taking their first steps on the ladder, but also those who know what they want from a move, and of course what to expect from their agent.”

People played a big part in Paul’s decision to move to Mackenzie Smith, “I have a lot of respect for the Managers of Mackenzie Smith that I’ve come up against in my career, so it’s great to finally be working alongside them. I also like the marketing and approach the business takes, with 25 years of being involved in the local communities, it’s good to be seen positively.”

Having helped so many achieve their moving goals to date, I thought it might be a tough ask for a ‘most memorable’, but this one clearly stuck – and for good reason! “I was once entrusted with a Huff House, valued at over £2 million, within 2 minutes of stepping into the home; the buyer said he would have it. Talk about being decisive!”

Paul has found himself at home in our newest branch, Yateley. “It’s a great location; you’ve got the benefit of being near the M3 and A30, but right next to the countryside too!”

Outside of work, Paul enjoys keeping fit on his bike, with the odd Pilates class too, and of course reaping the rewards with a good cake and coffee.”
