“We moved into The Lodge in early 1984 and within 3 days of moving in, we celebrated the birth of our third son, talk about a big week! At the time, the house and grounds needed some attention and we were lucky to have the services of a builder who specialised in renovating period houses. He spent several months working on the property, whilst retaining all of the character features, including bay windows and fireplaces. Over the last 35 years or so, we have maintained The Lodge to a high standard, created a wonderful, warm and happy family home.

The quarter of an acre plot provides plenty of outside space to enjoy entertaining; we have held many barbeques for friends and family over the years. The large lawn area is excellent for providing a play area for our young grandchildren, whilst it’s reassuring to know they are secure within a fenced garden which provides a high level of privacy and security with large wooden gates across the drive entrance from Alton Road.

Whilst the garden is a great space for them to run around and enjoy, we are within a 5 minute walk of the Basingstoke Canal and Fleet Pond. Our family and grandchildren have enjoyed walking and playing in this wonderful space over the years, whilst the location is also excellent for London commuters with a short 15 minute walk to Fleet train station through the woods around Fleet Pond.

The Lodge has gravelled paths around the property and a driveway with off-road parking for 5 or 6 cars, which is ideal for visitors! It’s not something often seen on more modern houses and has definitely been a benefit.

After 35 years as a very happy family home, we feel it is time to move to a smaller property. We will really miss The Lodge, but we will take with us many happy memories that we have shared here.”
