Best of luck to over 2000 people who will be competing or taking part in the Fleet half marathon in mid March. In this district, with the excellent quality of life and health of residents identified in the Halifax Quality of Life survey, it’s hardly surprising that the Fleet Half Marathon is now in it’s  32nd year, established in 1981 during the ‘running boom’ of the 1980’s the popularity of the event has never wained.

Chris Brasher (founder of the London Marathon) gave permission for the event to be titled “The Pre-London” giving the event greater gravitas and drawing in a wider audience, great news for the many sponsors and the huge range of fundraisers taking part. The Fleet Half Marathon supports Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research as well as the Brain Tumor Trust.

Katherine Grey, Senior Land Negotiator at Mackenzie Smith and Fleet resident, will be taking part for the fith year in a row. Last year Katherine ran both the Fleet Half and London Marathons and has kept her training up, currently running 8 miles weekly so we are sure she will take it in her stride!
