Get ready for new Rightmove record traffic

December 08, 2021

Each year, Rightmove reports record traffic between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day and this year will be no exception.

The new home-selling season begins in earnest on Boxing Day, all the distractions of work, nativities, and present buying have been put to side and it’s an opportune time to consider plans for the year ahead.

Each year, Boxing Day sees record Rightmove visits, in fact, last year’s was 54% up from the year before.

There were also more than 51 million visits to Rightmove between Boxing Day and the first working day of the new year, so it’s a hugely valuable time if you want to make sure your home is going to be seen by lots of potential buyers.

This year has been an undeniably busy year for the property market. So much so that 2021 has seen more property transactions than any year since 2006, it’s also witnessed the fastest price rises since then, with the average UK house price now £20,000 more than this time last year.

Whilst it has been the busiest year for sales for the last 15 years, the majority of this was pre-October, when buyers understandably took advantage of the stamp duty holiday savings. Yet we’ve been commenting for several months now that demand is exceeding supply, and this is showing no signs of slowing.

According to Russell Galley, MD of Halifax, “The performance of the market continues to be underpinned by a shortage of available properties, a strong market, and keen competition among mortgage providers keeping rates close to historic lows."

When it comes to house prices, there is a certain confidence that the rise could continue, albeit not as steeply, in the new year, following The Bank of England’s monetary policy officer’s comments earlier this month.

With high demand, higher prices, and likely record traffic on Rightmove, now could be an exceptional time to market your property for sale or to let.

Our branches are working until 12 pm on 23rd December and are happy to offer informal valuations or accurate local advice.
