Zoopla House Price Index: Buyer Interest Rises as the Autumn Market Approaches

In good news for sellers, the latest Zoopla House Price Index reports that buyer activity is on the rise as we head towards autumn.

According to Zoopla, the number of people searching for homes is now 7% higher across the UK than a year ago, marking the first time since August 2025 that buyer searches have increased across every region of the UK.

Here at Mackenzie Smith, we’re seeing this increased activity reflected in the local market, so it’s a positive sign for sellers as we head towards the traditionally busy autumn market.

High Searches for Homes in the South East of England

Zoopla’s latest figures are especially positive for sellers across the South East, where buyer searches have increased by 8.9% year-on-year; the strongest increase of any UK region.

This is particularly relevant for local homeowners considering a move across North Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey. The rise in buyer interest provides a timely opportunity for sellers who have been considering putting their property on the market. The increase suggests that those who previously paused their plans are now looking ahead to take action this autumn and it’s an excellent opportunity for home sellers to maximise the number of potential buyers their properties are exposed to.

What is key in the property market right now is that the important indicators of buyer activity, available property stock and market confidence are all showing encouraging signs.

What This Means for Local Sellers

For local homeowners considering selling, the latest activity across the South East provides plenty of reasons move forward. It suggests there is a growing audience of potential purchasers actively looking for their next home. As we move towards September and October, this could translate into increased enquiries, viewings and, ultimately, offers.

The latest figures therefore provide a useful reminder that the housing market is not simply about whether prices are rising or falling. Whilst accurate pricing remains essential, a property that is correctly positioned from the outset is likely to attract attention and compete effectively with the other homes available locally. Significantly, it will also help many home sellers if they consider the price difference between the property they’re selling and the one that they’re buying.

Property markets can vary considerably between towns, neighbourhoods and even individual streets, so understanding the level of demand for a particular type of property is key. This is where local market knowledge really matters.

Thinking of selling?.

The autumn market could provide a valuable window to those considering a move. With buyer interest picking up, now could be a good time to understand what your property could achieve and how it would compare with other homes currently available.
