Why Buyers in North Hampshire and Surrey Could Soon Have More Choice
After a challenging period for the construction industry, market analysts Glenigan are predicting a gradual rise in the number of new homes being built, driven by improving market conditions, greater confidence among developers and ongoing efforts to increase housing supply.
For new homes‘ buyers, that could mean more choice, more opportunities and a wider range of properties becoming available across the market.
Has New Home Supply Been Limited?
Over the past couple of years, a combination of rising construction costs, planning challenges, labour shortages and more have slowed the pace of housebuilding across the UK. Some local developers have had to scale back projects or delay new sites while market conditions remained uncertain.
As a result, the supply of new homes has struggled to keep pace with demand, particularly in sought-after areas where buyers continue to compete for a relatively limited number of properties.
Signs of Improvement
Whilst challenges remain, there are increasing signs that the outlook is becoming more positive.
Residential construction activity should strengthen gradually as confidence improves and borrowing costs become more manageable. Lower mortgage rates and improving affordability are helping to support buyer demand, encouraging developers to bring forward new schemes.
There are also indications that new home registrations and housing starts have begun to increase, creating optimism that more developments will come to market in the near future.
Where are the New Homes?
This is a question we hear frequently from buyers across North Hampshire and Surrey, specifically looking for a newly built home. Whether it’s the appeal of energy efficiency, lower maintenance costs, modern layouts or simply being able to move into a property that is ready to enjoy from day one, demand for new homes remains strong.
In fact, from our own experience, there are often far more buyers looking for quality new-build properties than there are new homes available. As soon as attractive developments are launched locally, the interest is high.
What Could This Mean for Buyers?
An increase in new home construction would be welcome news for a range of buyers.
