One of the things I love about working in the Marketing Department is organising the sponsorship of local events and I am pleased to say that yet again, Mackenzie Smith are proud to be one of the main sponsors/partners of the Fleet Half Marathon.
Thousands of runners returned to Calthorpe Park to take part in Sunday’s event that is organised by Fleet and Crookham Athletic Club. The event was once again a great success as athletes took on the 13 mile route through Fleet’s town centre and its beautiful country roads around Dogmersfield and Crookham Village.
It was such a fantastic local event and to show our support, myself, Gavin Fry from the Farnborough office and Katherine Gray, Land Manager, all took part. Katherine, who is a keen runner, has taken part in this many times and last Sunday was her 8th Fleet Half Marathon. For Gavin it was his first and he did exceptionally well with a time of 2hrs 8 mins, I however brought up the rear, finishing in 2hrs 48mins.
One of the main things that struck me about the day, was how friendly and positive everyone was, running the 13 mile course I met some lovely people along the way, all encouraging each other and keen to see their fellow runners do well. The weather was also perfect for running, a little overcast and chilly, so no risk of over heating and as I was raising money for a local wildlife charity, my fox face paint managed to stay intact.
