Simon Dredge: Why I love Hook

“Overall, I really enjoy living here. The people are what really sets the village apart from other places – they’re so friendly! From a work perspective, it’s really nice to have such friendly locals to help move, we are so often stopped in the street for a chat. When it’s allowed, our clients often take the time to pop in for a catch-up when they’re passing, it’s not something you see in larger towns and it makes Hook particularly welcoming.

There’s a great sense of community, something which has only grown since we were thrown into lockdown. I think it comes from being a small, but a vibrant village.

We’re so lucky to have some excellent walks in the local area, meaning it’s very easy for people to stay local – especially with the supermarket and local facilities.

My favourite outdoor space to enjoy is the open countryside between Hook and Rotherwick. There are some great circular walks and it’s a really peaceful place to enjoy with the family and to walk the dog.”

It’s not just the countryside that makes Hook such a wonderful place to call home for Simon, he’s also a fan of the local coffee shops and pubs which we’re so spoilt to have on the doorstep.

“My favourite café is Baristas, conveniently just across the road from the office! Whilst my favourite pub/restaurant is just a short drive away in the pretty village of Newnham; The Old House at Home. This village pub has been a firm favourite for a number of years, now offering a takeaway service whilst they’re closed – it’s well
worth checking out if you’re local yourself!”
