Homeowners who took the opportunity to market in January have benefited from the busiest ever start to the year, with the number of potential buyers enquiring from Rightmove up 15% on this time last year.
With such high demand, competition amongst buyers is almost double that of last January, and buyers are making offers quickly. According to Rightmove, on average, sellers are finding buyers two weeks faster compared to the same time last year.
Our MD, Stephen Tetlow, has shared his advice for those thinking of selling in his latest blog, here. But essentially, if you’re looking to move, get your property on the market, without demonstrating a proactive approach to selling, the offer you wish to make on a property may not be good enough – there will likely be competition so you need to be in a strong sales position.
Rightmove has commented that “almost 40% of people enquiring about a home who have a property to sell say that they are yet to list it for sale. In the current market, as you will be competing against other buyers who are able to move more quickly, this is likely to mean you’ll miss out on the home you want. To put yourself in the best possible position to proceed, you should become a ‘power-buyer’, by making sure your current home is on the market, or preferably sold subject to contract first, before starting the search for your new home.”
Choice is continuing to grow. We are seeing more homes coming to the market, which is great news for buyers.
