Over the last year we have been running a photography competition to capture the locality during the changing seasons, with the prize being £250 for the winner and £250 for a charity of the winner’s choice. The Mackenzie Smith photography competition culminated with the production of our calendar and a presentation to the winners and their chosen charities.
Jon Lacey, manager of the Farnborough office, hosted the presentation and was proud to award the winners with their cheques, “the standard of entries was really high and the resulting calendar is stunning”.
The main prize winner was James Woolley from Farnborough who took a simply beautiful picture of Yateley Lake. He is putting his prize money towards a new lens to further his hobby and was pleased to choose Frimley Park Hospital Charity as his matched prize donation. Nick Le Resche from Frimley Park Hospital Charity came to pick up the prize donation was delighted that James had chosen them. Frimley Park Charity’s goal, is to provide specialist equipment and services that go above and beyond the NHS; from cutting edge equipment that can help save lives to more holistic spaces that consider the individual and the family unit and the money donated will go wards their current Breast Care Appeal.
Ffyona Speed was the winner in the junior category, her prize money is going towards a new camera as she is studying photography at college and hopes to become a photo journalist. Fittingly Ffyona chose a young person’s charity, Shooting Star Chase children’s hospice care. From babies to young people up to the age of 21, Shooting Star Chase support families from diagnosis to end of life and throughout bereavement with a range of nursing, practical, emotional and medical care. Their support is free of charge to families 365 days a year and includes short breaks at their two hospices (Shooting Star House in Hampton and Christopher’s in Guildford), Hospice at Home, day care, symptom management, end-of-life care, bereavement care and a comprehensive range of therapies and support groups for the whole family.
At Mackenzie Smith, we wish to thank all who entered, the quality of submissions we received over the past year has been truly outstanding and we would especially like to thank James and Ffyona for choosing two very worthy charities.
