Here at Mackenzie Smith, our landlords and tenants can rest assured that their money is safe, as we provide a principled service that’s up to date with the latest Government legislation.

Having the ARLA Propertymark demonstrates the quality of our service, as they set the standard for letting agents, with all members required to follow their guidance and conform to a strict code of practice.

As the law currently stands, letting agents do not have to be qualified for the service, but with ARLA Propertymark, we are obligated to demonstrate transparency in all of our activities. At Mackenzie Smith, we don’t just stop here, with an inherent drive to offer advice, knowledge and a service that you can trust.

ARLA Propertymark does not only mean that we are independently regulated, but also that all of our landlords and their tenants benefit from the Client Money Protection scheme.

With the CMP scheme, all money is kept in a designated client account which undergoes annual inspections. The scheme safeguards landlords and tenants in that if an agent misappropriated funds, they would both be reimbursed. This includes a maximum award per claim of £50,000.

Millions of pounds are lost every year to landlords who invest their interests with agents who are not ARLA Propertymark members, with an estimated £2.7 billion in client funds currently held by letting agents across the UK.

Lettings Director, Michael Clarke, adds;

“An agent’s fee is of course very important, but this shouldn’t be the most important question you ask a prospective letting agent. It is vitally important you employ the services of an ethical and professional agent that will protect you as much as possible, which is why it is so important to use a member of ARLA. These agents are fully trained, audited and prove they have a proper customer redress scheme and the appropriate client money protection insurance. My advice to any landlord would be – don’t cut corners, especially at the moment. With so many changes to the legislation affecting rental properties, you need the advice of a professional agent.”
