Mother’s Day is fast approaching and we all like to show our appreciation for everything they do for us throughout the year. Why not take this opportunity to make the most of some of our wonderful local attractions?
The Vyne at Sherbourne St John is a firm favourite for all ages. Featuring lakes and beautifully cultivated gardens, established over the centuries, this Tudor mansion is rich with history and offers stunning architecture with grand halls and ornate decor. After enjoying the extensive grounds and a tour around the house itself, the tea shop is ideal to stop, relax and treat Mum (and yourself!) with a slice of delicious homemade cake.
Alternatively, why not share a relaxing canal trip? Mother’s Day boating trips are being run on the Basingstoke Canal, with several trips on the day, starting from Mytchett Place Road at 11.30, 12.30 and 14.00. The morning trips are to Greatbottom Flash, with adult tickets costing £6.50, whilst the afternoon trip is going a little further to Deepcut, with adult tickets at £9. All of the mums on board will be also be gifted with a small posy of spring flowers! With just twelve seats available on the boat, novelly named “Rosebud”, advanced bookings are recommended.
If you are looking for something glamorous, The Aviator in Farnborough offers a wide, exciting range of activities for Mothers Day, from wining and dining with bubbles and an exclusive cosmetics event, to massages, facials and manicure treatments.
Providing the sun is shining on us, a trip to Farnham Park could make a welcome change. This beautiful medieval deer park consists of a whopping 320 acres of rolling grassland, offering elevated countryside views, with veteran trees, valleys, ponds and streams; ideal for nature loving mums. There is an adventure playground as well as some wheelchair access, making a visit suitable for the entire family. Interestingly, the local nature reserve is not only a Grade II Listed Park, but also a Site of Nature Conservation Importance. The park is easily accessed from the A287, with a free car park just off Folly Hill, near the historic town of Farnham.
If a good hearty meal is more your style, there are many local restaurants to tempt the tastebuds, offering special Mother’s Day deals. Book a meal at The Cricketers in Yateley, who are offering a Mother’s Day special with a tempting array of roast options. Longbridge Mill in Hook presents a homely, characterful country pub, open for bookings on Mother’s Day, with three-course meal menu options for £21.95. If your local is Fleet, why not book a meal at the popular Faulkner’s Arms, who offer a great variety of meals, or you could sample the Italian restaurant, Trattoria La Casa.
However you celebrate Mother’s Day, enjoy your day and don’t forget to pick mum up some flowers!
