“There’s a lot to love about this vibrant Hampshire Village.
I have worked here now for many years and the view from our office never fails to inspire me. The village green, the avenue of centuries old, Mildmay Oaks, planted on the express wishes of Admiral Collingwood after the battle of Trafalgar to provide oak for new ships; whatever the season, Hartley Wintney exudes a wondrous allure and offers a great quality of life, which is reflected back to me every day when I talk to the people who live and work here; it’s a very special place. Our high street is quintessentially English with a wealth of independent boutique shops, lively cafes and pubs. You can’t beat sitting outside the Cricketers on a warm summers day with a glass of something watching a match, played on the oldest, continually played cricket green in England or on a cold winter afternoon inside, enjoying the inviting log fires and the tantalising aroma of Sunday lunch.”
During the summer months, the cricket ground hosts many events, like the Mad Hatters Summer Ball and is home to matches throughout the season. The fringe festival is a particular favourite, a week of events culminating in a picnic on the green and a hog roast and fancy dress ball in the evening. In the winter months you will find the Christmas market, attracting large numbers of buyers, browsers and sellers, offering festive food, drink and artisanal gifts. The red-brick Church of England parish church, St John the Evangelist stands proudly overlooking the green at the southern end of the village and Hatton’s Pond, with its charming thatched duck house, named after a landlord of the Waggon and Horses public house in about 1870. Dilly Pond, half a mile from the centre is known to be the last remaining physical feature of the medieval village that stood before.
Situated in North East Hampshire, this rural village with a wealth of history is surrounded by idyllic countryside. With a population of approximately 5000 people, the Parish includes Phoenix Green to the south and the adjoining hamlets of Dipley, West Green, Elvetham and Hartfordbridge.
“There are so many places to explore, right on your doorstep. Yateley Heath Wood and Hazeley Heath as well as large expanses of common land you will never be wanting for an adventure. Hartley Wintney offers amenities and day to day facilities for all age groups, a wonderful range of shops, restaurants, a golf club, two welcoming public houses alongside the usual grocers and bakers you would expect in a busy village high street. We have excellent schools, accessibility to beautiful countryside and a buoyant community spirit. There are regular trains to London Waterloo from Winchfield station, arriving in under an hour for those who commute by rail, the village also has easy access to the M3 and M4 for travel further afield.”
There is a large variety of property styles in and around Hartley Wintney and the surrounding area.
Everything from picturesque cottages on the cricket green to large country houses can be found within close proximity. West Green Road and Thackham’s Lane are particularly sought after.
The varied housing stock in and around Hartley Wintney caters for all. The St.Marys Park development, which is only a few years old, offers a range of properties ideal for families moving into the area. The popular three-bedroom houses on the development will cost in the region of £400,000 to £450,000.
