Headley connection for King Charles III

May 03, 2023

With the coronation celebrations of King Charles III about to begin, we were proud to discover His Majesty had attended Cheam School in Headley.

Following in his father Prince Phillip’s footsteps, King Charles began his studies at Cheam School on Monday September 23rd, back in 1957. As a young Duke, he was accompanied by his mother Queen Elizabeth for the journey, travelling all the way from their Balmoral estate. They took the Royal train to Newbury station, before arriving together at Cheam by car.

Cheam School stands as the oldest private school in the country, originally founded as a boys’ school in 1645. During the 1700’s, the school became renowned for students continuing to Eton, Harrow and Winchester. Originally located in Cheam, Surrey, the school re-located to in 1934, to reside within former Georgian farmhouse, Beenham Court, in Headley. Girls were officially accepted as students in 1997.

Today this award-winning, co-educational preparatory school has a reputation for amazing results, as well as traditional values and sportiness. With impressive grounds offering approximately 80 acres of Hampshire parkland, the school benefits from excellent facilities, with new classrooms, a music school, science block, an indoor sports centre and Art, Design & Technology Centre.

Just a stone’s throw from Cheam School, The Old Sawmill presents 9 brand new, luxury family homes from independent developer Willowcrest Homes. Situated within a desirable countryside setting with excellent city connections, these nine properties truly offer the best of both worlds.
