Free last minute summer activities

August 24, 2023

Keeping the children entertained for 6 weeks can be a struggle, never mind the costs involved! With summer holidays wrapping up, we’ve put together a list of free local activities to give you a bit of inspiration for these final weeks…

Aldershot Playfest – Saturday 26th August
Aldershot Playfest in Union Street is perfect for free summer fun adventure, taking place from 10am to 4pm. With a virtual reality ocean experience, a kickabout with Hampshire FA, Lego robots, crafting, and much more.

Bumpers Open Day – Saturday 2nd September
With children’s entry free and adults at £5, you can explore 2 acres of beautiful, landscaped country gardens at Bumpers, Long Sutton, Hook. Relax in the grounds whilst the children play, with sculptures, water features, and more to see. What’s more, you can enjoy a traditional cream tea, too.

Alice Holt, Farnham
Visit Alice Holt for free, with only car parking payable. Follow criss-crossing trails, explore scenic woodlands on foot or bicycle, or relax with a flask of tea while the children climb, slide, and swing in the adventure playground.

Bouncy castles in the park
If you have an annual pass to Wellington Country Park, it’s a great day out for the children. From Saturday 26th August to Monday 28th August 2023, 10.30am – 4pm, there will be bouncy castles available too, perfect for the children to burn off some energy! If you need a pass, please click here.

The Vyne, Sherborne St. John
If you’re a member of the National Trust, you could plan a family visit to The Vyne. Immerse yourself and the children within ambient 22 acre grounds. Follow secluded woodland trails, spy out local birdlife at the look-out point, or see the 17th century summer house in beautiful formal gardens.

Eco Explorers Clubs
Join the Eco Explorers in the town centres of Aldershot on Saturday 2nd or Farnborough on Sunday 3rd of September. With free gardening and wildlife fun, children can learn how to take care of the environment in these monthly drop-in clubs. Grow vegetables and plants, craft bee and insect shelters, and more. For more information, contact the organisers here, or on 01252 398399.

Stay and Play at your local library
Perfect for a rainy day, Fleet Library is hosting Stay & Play, from 3.30pm – 4.30pm Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and from 9.30am – 5pm every Saturday, with adult supervision required.
Aldershot, Farnborough, Fleet, and Yateley libraries are all hosting “Construction Clubs” every Saturday. Running from 2pm – 4pm in Aldershot, Farnborough, and Fleet, and from 10am – 12pm in Yateley. Donations are welcome, and the children can create to their heart’s content.
Storytime is on every Tuesday in all four libraries too, for ages 3 to 5. The activity runs in Yateley from 10am – 11am and 11am – 12pm, in Farnborough and Fleet from 10.30am – 11.00am and in Aldershot from 10am – 10.30am.
