The 1st Normandy Scouts Christmas bazaar, sponsored by Mackenzie Smith, was a great success raising over £2000 towards repairs on the scout hut roof which is unlikely to last another winter.

1st Normandy Scouts Fundraising 2014All of the sections were involved in the preparations of items to sell on the day; the Beavers made magic reindeer food, the Cubs made dog toys and planted bulbs into pots, the Scouts created marshmallow sticks and the Explorers made bird boxes.  The event included 15 paying stallholders selling crafts and gifts, plus chocolate and wine tombola’s, face painting and a fun ukulele workshop ‘learn to play Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer’.

Fundraiser Lesley Backhurst was pleased to report back on the event… “Well what a great day Sunday turned out to be.  The weather was on side, lots of parents and leaders had very generously donated chocolate, bottles, gifts and cakes and sold lots of raffle tickets, and lots of parents, leaders, Explorers and Scouts mucked in enthusiastically with anything that needed doing, both before, during and after the event.  It will certainly be good evidence to any potential grant donors, that we are able to work together to raise our own funds to help repair the roof and that we really are a worthy cause.

I managed to speak with all the stall holders towards the end of the event and get a little feedback, which I thought I would share with you as they all said pretty much the same things – they had all enjoyed being there, which was great, but what was really great, was the reason that they had enjoyed being there the most, it wasn’t because they had made lots of money, but because they felt that it was a really good atmosphere and that the 1st Normandy Scout Group had created the atmosphere as we were very friendly and enthusiastic which had made it an enjoyable afternoChristmas Bazaar Chocolate Tombolaon for them.  I hope you all enjoyed it too.

So the best news is that we raised over £1900 in profit, which will go straight to the roof fund.  An amazing achievement!  Well done and thank you to everyone involved, for making it work.”

The day culminated with a raffle with over 40 fabulous prizes donated by supportive local businesses.  The event, sponsored by Mackenzie Smith Estate Agents in Ash Vale, was a great afternoon of fun and entertainment.  One visitor said, “We only popped down for an hour, but we were having so much fun, we ended up staying all afternoon!
