2017 was always going to be a bit of a year for us, marking 25 years since we started, back in 1992. With such a huge achievement, we’ve celebrated in many ways; by continuing to do what we do best, introducing some new elements to the mix and of course, having a bit of a party.
To mark the 25th birthday we emblazoned our boards, offices and anything the marketing team could find, with a bespoke 25th anniversary logo. This will stay in place going forward until our next milestone to continue to represent the experience and knowledge we bring to the table in everything we do. We also took the chance to throw a party at the lovely Tylney Hall, where our team with their partners were treated to a great evening of delicious food and drinks, dancing, a cake and party favours created specifically for the event and a great chance to look back on the past 25 years of business.
It was fortunate timing that brought about our biggest change for the year, the introduction of our sixth branch. Whilst it wasn’t necessarily intentional to coincide with our 25th anniversary celebrations, it certainly seems a fitting tribute. We fitted out our village centre presence in Yateley, opening in September of this year with a team made up of new(ish) recruits and those that have been with us for a while. Opening the office did require some new team members who were introduced to the business throughout the year, we’ve seen some passionate, driven and expert individuals join us this year; Kris Holmes in Hook, Tracy Cook in Lettings , Lucie Macdonald as our Sales Assistant, Stephen Down and Alex Cox (pictured right) in Farnborough’s sales team, Gary Tetlow in our Land Department and of course Gavin Fouracre and Kieran Egan in Yateley. Both Gavin and Kieran started in Fleet, before moving over to open our Yateley branch, joined by our Farnborough colleague, Gavin Fry.
The Yateley team have surpassed all expectations in their first few months. The local community has offered some great support. It was wonderful to meet so many at the Yateley Cask and Cork Festival and we’re very grateful to have been given such a warm welcome to the area.
Across many of our branch locations, our day-to-day business has been enhanced by some brilliant new homes from a selection of developers; TA Fisher, Taylor Wimpey, Bellway and Edison Homes to name just a few. We closed sales on The Croft, Ewshot Gardens, Stroud House, The Grove (sold entirely off plan), Jenny’s Cottage, Church Meadows, Blue Prior and Providence House, with some apartments still available in the Bartley Way development. We’re also looking forward to taking The Gables, Pembroke Manor, The Clockhouse, Oak Cottage and Mytchett Road through to next year, offering a variety of quality homes in desirable locations.
Providence House, Blue Prior and Pembroke Manor, in particular, have seen a number of First Time Buyers enter the property market, helped by schemes such as Help to Buy. It’s certainly been an interesting year for those looking to take their first step on the property ladder, with the introduction of the Lifetime ISA, the extension of Help to Buy and of course, more recently, the abolishment of stamp duty.
Not only has it been a year of developments for First Time Buyers, but also for buyers, sellers, landlords and tenants across the board. It has certainly been an active year for changes to legislation, market conditions and technology. Our experienced and knowledgable team, having worked in the industry (some of them), for more than 30 years, have come across almost every obstacle, meaning they’re best placed to offer advice and opinions on current market conditions. We’ve also embraced technology, having introduced Virtual Reality tours this year; a new product which is sure to become more beneficial with the continual improvement of technology and reliance on mobile devices to view properties.
As mentioned, many of our team have been in the industry for their entire careers, we’ve been fortunate to have some exceptionally long-standing colleagues. Both Ed Mackenzie Smith and Steve Tetlow have been with Mackenzie Smith from the very start, Ed of course founding the agency, with the support of Steve ever since. We’ve also celebrated a 15th anniversary, Jon Lacey – Fleet Branch Manager, along with two 10th anniversaries, our Financial Controller, Tracey Easton and Hook’s Branch Manager, Simon Dredge. It’s been fantastic to thank these dedicated individuals and we certainly look forward to celebrating many more anniversaries in the years to come.
Aside from the business aspects, we’ve had a great year out and about in our local communities. We’ve had competitions, in fact our #FestiveFriday competition is still in full swing over on Facebook, and we’ve supported a great many wonderful causes and events. The Fleet Half Marathon is a calendar highlight of ours, this year was no exception with two of the team (Katherine Gray and Gavin Fouracre), taking on the 13.1 mile challenge. Other annual highlights include the Hartley Wintney Festival, performances from Hook Players and Robert May’s Awards Evening. However, this year we also introduced a further 11 sponsorships; Fleet Town FC, Fleet Lions Club, Yateley’s Cask and Cork, Ash FC, Ash Easter Egg Hunt, Ash in Bloom, Littlefishes Pre-School, Cove Infant School, Hook Schools Parent Association and of course our most recent challenge in association with Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre for Children in Need. It’s been a record year for our sponsorship, but next year we plan on going even bigger as the sponsor of Yateley’s Gig On The Green!
With such a tremendous year all round, we’re planning on keeping our foot firmly on the pedal as we enter 2018. We have plenty of plans in place for next year which we can’t wait to introduce you all to!
