Estate Agents Odiham

The picturesque market town of Odiham and adjoining North Warnborough, with its 4,700 inhabitants lies midway between Fleet and Basingstoke and is one mile South of Motorway M3 junction 5.   The nearest train station, Hook, is two miles away; Winchfield railway station is three miles away.

Odiham is a small market town featuring a classic Georgian High Street and within which stands the remains of a 12th Century Castle. The castle was built by King John in 1214 and during the 14th century played a role in several significant events, including a sitting of Parliament, and the imprisonment of King David II of Scotland in the castle for eleven years. However, by the fifteenth century its only use was as a hunting lodge. By 1605 the castle was in ruins as it remains today.

Also of historical interest is ‘The Pest House’, one of only five remaining examples of ‘isolation hospitals’ built around 1622 to house plague sufferers, restored in 1981 by the Odiham Society to form a mini heritage centre.  Odiham could be seen as the birth of the veterinary profession in Britain. In 1783 a group drawn from 'Gentlemen of Rank, fortune and Ingenuity' plus some 'intelligent farmers' met in The George Inn to form a society to promote agriculture in the area, the society pledged to reform animal care by establishing a veterinary school, leading to the foundation of the Royal Veterinary Society.

Odiham is home to RAF Odiham, a front line support helicopter base. The airfield initially opened in 1925 as a Summer Camp for Army Co-operation aircraft. In the early 1930’s Odiham became a permanent airfield now home to rapid response Chinooks.

There is a wide range of housing available in the area from older cottages to modern homes.  The village provides for education up to 16 with Puddleducks Montessori Nursery, Odiham Pre-School, Buryfields Infant School, Mayhill Junior School and Robert May’s Secondary School; which has been awarded “Grade 1 Outstanding” by OFSTED.
