We work with a number of developers on a wide range of new sites, which gives local buyers a great selection with varied benefits. We’re thrilled to be currently working with a local developer on an exclusive site in Ash, Surrey – The Oaks.
This select development of just 8 family homes is now complete, ready to view and move into. The houses range from 3-4 bedrooms, with prices from £510,000, with the benefit of Help to Buy available.
The Oaks, built by Willowcrest Homes, offers unique features and bespoke fittings, so we have taken the opportunity to get a developer’s insight on what makes a great home. Project Co-ordinator, Julia Cooksley-Webber, was kind enough to share some of her time and wisdom for a quick Q & A.
Q. Tell us a little bit about life at Willowcrest Homes…
I’ve been working here for just over 3 years now, with the company operating for 11 years prior to that. I have a real passion for renovating homes and seeing the potential a property can offer, so this was a perfect fit for me.
Choosing and designing the colour schemes for internal fixtures and fittings with the purchasers in mind is my favourite part of the job. When everything comes together and the carpets go down, you can finally see all the plans and hard work pay off, it’s a great feeling.
Q. What makes a Willowcrest home different?
The whole team here pay meticulous attention to detail and never compromise on quality or finish. This is going to be someone’s “forever home”, so it has to be perfect.
Q. When it comes to selecting the specifications of the home, both internally and externally, how do you go about choosing?
The interior specification at the moment is all about mixing a neutral palette, creating a calm environment. We achieve this by using natural products where possible; woods, granite etc., and incorporating clean, simple lines with curves to soften things. Maximising light, space and storage is also hugely important. All of the homes at The Oaks benefit from bi-folding doors to the rear, introducing plenty of natural light to the kitchen/breakfast rooms.
It’s a fairly similar approach externally too, mixing material palettes. With the use of bi-fold doors, attractive garage doors, accessible/external electricity, spacious patios and stylish lighting, we aim to create outdoor spaces that are an extension of the indoors.
Q. What do you think is the most important thing a buyer looks for in a new home?
Buyers needs vary enormously, but our last two developments, The Oaks included, have been family homes, so our purchasers’ priorities have included sociable, practical, spacious and adaptable living spaces; large enough to bring families and friends together.
Our buyers have also placed importance on a safe environment, a desirable location, access to the countryside and nature, yet convenient for local amenities and schools.
Q. Is there one thing you look for in particular when finding a site to develop?
All our sites to date have been ‘tucked away’, surrounded by nature with no through traffic. We try to find sites that will offer, when finished, more than just a home. The Oaks is a wonderful example of this as we’ve created a great community space, surrounding a protected wooded copse.
Q. What’s your favourite aspect of the homes at The Oaks?
Without a doubt, it’s the wonderful setting. The landscaped communal grounds and the large plots provide a real sense of space, along with great access to the local amenities; within walking distance.
Q. What’s been your biggest challenge at The Oaks?
Whilst building, we had to go to great lengths (understandably) to avoid any impact on the protected Oak trees which our houses surround. It’s the protection of these wonderful assets that truly set the site apart, so a challenge worth facing…
We’d like to thank Julia for giving up her time this week. There isn’t often the opportunity to get an insight at how the homes are built and the thought processes behind it all.
