Rural buyer trends from London market

January 04, 2021

Mackenzie Smith saw a dramatic increase in the already popular local areas our branches cover in 2020, massively spurred by changing trends in the market.

The percentage of Hampshire and Surrey property sales increase every year, however, 2020 showed a great rise in demand for our branches.

Rightmove traffic also saw the number of Hampshire sales agreed rise by a whopping 60% on the last year, with Surrey village Lightwater also featuring a rise by 46%. The trend for moving to our local areas is expected to continue, with recent world events leading to many buyers desiring a change in lifestyle.

Rural villages with populations under 10,000 were the most popular move destinations according to Rightmove. Mackenzie Smith saw many London buyers, as well as those more local taking up residence in our rural, well-connected villages, small commuter and successful business towns.

Buyers are seeking a wide array of property types from our vast portfolio, ranging from detached bungalows in quaint, olde worlde communities like Hartley Wintney, to cottages in Frimley Green, renovated character dwellings like Castlebrook in North Warnborough and brand new modern developments like Cricketers Close in Bagshot.

Perhaps the winning element of our local areas is the great commuting, with excellent road connections and mainline stations linking straight to London and to the thriving towns nearby.

Many of our sought after locations, such as this desirable, unique property in Yateley, enjoy beautiful close proximity to the countryside with superb views. The small town of Fleet, village of Ash Vale and the historical villages of Odiham and Old Basing enjoy picturesque strolls along the Basingstoke Canal.

Nature reserves are often nearby. The esteemed area of Edenbrook enjoys 82 acres of country park with Meadowlands, woodlands and wetlands. The new village of Wellesley enjoys 110 acres of woodland and meadowland as well as a modern entertainment complex.

We also benefit from selling great properties within a number of exclusive, close-knit villages such as the characterful farming village of Darby Green, and the quaint, well-preserved village parish of Rotherwick.

If you are interested in purchasing a local property or placing your’s on the market, please speak with your local branch who will be happy to offer a valuation in line with our covid guidelines.
