Katherine Gray 2x3Every other week we shine the spotlight on a different member within our team. This week we’d like to introduce our Land Manager, Katherine Gray.

Katherine has been with Mackenzie Smith for 8 years, having joined us in 2009 following the completion of her LL.B (Hons) and LPC. Miss Gray’s day to day schedule involves a wealth of tasks covering the entire spectrum of activities when selling land, from the initial introduction to the foundations laid by the developer. Her technical expertise and legal knowledge allows for a very thorough understanding and approach.

Katherine chose to get involved with our Land Department as she wanted to work with people and liked the idea of selling something ‘real’. She excels with anything mentally challenging or complex and thrives in overcoming difficulties with the application of her knowledge and experience. It should therefore come as no surprise that Katherine’s favourite aspect of the job is working with her clients, knowing that she’s done the best job she possibly can for them. This comes back down to the core ethos of Mackenzie Smith, one which is engrained within all of our various branches and teams, including the Land Department.

“Selling land takes time, in many cases years. So it’s important to build good working relationships with our clients and indeed the prospective purchasers, especially when selling land on a subject to planning basis. You remember the difficulties that sites have had to overcome, such as planning constraints, contamination, access to services, covenants, ransom strips and environmental issues to name a few, in order to achieve a successful planning permission. You also remember the joy your bring to clients when you get to make the phone call that you have succeeded in securing them, what is in effect, a life changing sum of money. Every transaction is memorable for its own reasons, but that phone call, for me, is always a memorable moment, as I’m sure it is for the client also.”

Katherine truly revels in a challenge, be that overcoming a hurdle in the route to achieving a planning permission, or indeed in her personal life in the form of physical challenges.

KG LEJOGOur very own marathon runner, Katherine spends her spare time in training for various athletic pursuits, having previously completed the London Marathon, the Brighton Marathon twice and a Disney Marathon. She’s currently in training for the Paris Marathon in just a few weeks’ time.

Not just a runner, Katherine has also achieved some incredible cycling goals, having cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 2015, the London to Paris and London Prudential 100 miles last year. Passionate about both running and cycling, Katherine has entered her first triathlon for this summer, the Staffordshire Half Iron Man.

It is clearly Katherine’s drive, focus, tenacity and perseverance that get her over the finish line both professionally and in the sporting world. Katherine will be running the Fleet Half Marathon this coming weekend, an event which Mackenzie Smith proudly partner with, and we look forward to cheering her on then.
