Fleet-Half-Marathon-Mackenzie-SmithThis coming weekend, Sunday March 19th, Fleet will once again be closed off to traffic for the annual Brooks Fleet Half Marathon. Every year we support this fantastic local event and this year is no different.

The Brooks Fleet Half Marathon is one of the longest running, and reputable, half marathons now in its 36th year having been started in 1982. The event is dubbed the “Pre-London” taking place just a matter of weeks before the London Marathon as a great preparation run for those taking part. Fleet_Crookham_HM_logo_resizedThis year organisers have reviewed the course to make the last 2 miles faster and flatter, offering participants the chance to get a great time.

It is also a great standalone event, each year receiving the maximum 5,000 entries well in advance of Christmas, with 3,500 entrants getting the chance to run the course.

The course offers a great community interest, with road closures throughout the area allowing local residents, friends and families to line the streets offering their support along the 13.1 mile route. If you’re planning on coming along this weekend, one fleet halfof the best places to watch the race is right outside our front door in Fleet from 10.30am. The race goes past our office on Fleet Road twice, at miles 2 and 5, giving you two chances to see the runners on their way. The finish line is over at Calthorpe Park, a great place to congregate at the end.

The weather for Sunday, at the time of writing, looks like ideal running conditions; slightly overcast and peaking at 13degrees.

With two of our team members taking up the challenge themselves; Land Manager Katherine Gray and Fleet’s Senior Client Manager Gavin Fouracre, we’ll be there to cheer them on and wish them both, along with the other 3,498 runners, the very best of luck for the day.

There are plenty of useful reminders and tips to make sure runners and spectators are prepared and enjoy the event safely on the Fleet Half Marathon website.
