You may, or may not, be aware of the changes coming into place regarding data protection. The legislation that has governed how businesses and organisations process data is having an overdue upgrade, with the introduction of GDPR.

GDPR is officially implemented on May 25th, ultimately meaning that as an individual, you’re provided with more assurance that your data is treated and is used in the safest way with full transparency,  you’re also likely to have a cleanse of the marketing e-mails you receive. I say this is long overdue, mostly due to the fact that the existing data protection act has been in place since 1998, in the twenty years that have passed, the way we offer data, sign-up to communications, particularly across the internet and using mobile technology, has completely changed. It’s a different world, so we’re certainly ready for the change.

We’re working hard to become compliant in advance of May 25th, which is why you may have noticed the new form on The Thistleblower and across our promotional communication. We want to ensure you only receive information that is relevant to you, information that you’ve expressed an interest in receiving.

We’ll continue to keep you updated with changes to our processes, such as an updated privacy statement and terms, our branch teams will also be receiving training and guidelines as to the processing, storage and use of all of our client data. We’ve already spoken with all of our third parties to ensure that any data passed on with consent is used, stored and managed in an appropriate manner.

In the meantime, if you could take a moment to update your preferences, we’ll make sure you’re provided with relevant information to keep you informed on the latest market news, advice and tips. For full details on GDPR, click here.
