Last Sunday should have been the Fleet Half Marathon, however, the Beast from the East had other ideas.

The organisation team made the sensible decision on the Saturday to cancel the event, following advice from RAF Odiham that the weather was going to take a turn for the worse. They weren’t wrong.

Most of us awoke on Sunday to a winter wonderland, far from suitable running conditions with much of the planned route covered in ice and snow. Whilst the decision was of course disappointing for the runners who had put in the training and the wonderful volunteers who had worked their socks off to pull such an event together, it was indeed the right choice to ensure the safety of all involved.

We are thrilled to hear that the team have managed to reschedule for Sunday April 29th, planning road closures etc is no easy feat, so it’s wonderful that we have a second chance. Whilst not all runners will be able to make this rescheduled date, it’s a great effort from all involved. Unfortunately our Managing Director, Ed Mackenzie Smith, cannot make the new date, but we’re hoping to still have a couple of runners in the race!

A huge well done to all involved in the organisation for overcoming a tricky situation with strong communication and a positive approach.

Good luck to all of the runners who are still able to take part, we’ll be cheering you on from our Fleet offices!
