Ash Manor Schools Annual Award ceremony took place on 26th of March to recognise the achievements of pupils in a particular subject or activity.
This year 76 individual awards were given out across all subjects rewarding success, aspiration, achievement, endeavour and commitment.
Guests of Honour at the presentation evening were Mayor of Guildford, Councillor David Elms and Adventurer James Ketchell who gave a moving motivational speech. James Ketchell’s achievements include; rowing the Atlantic ocean single-handed, climbing Mount Everest and taking part in an 18,000 unsupported global cycle through 20 countries, all within 6 years of recovering from a major motorcycling accident, so he knows something about determination!
Mackenzie Smith’s Exceptional Achievement Award is given annually to those recognised as performing exceptionally well during the ‘Big Interview’ or ‘Little Interview’.
The Big and Little Interviews are the schools useful and innovative events introducing pupils from year 9 and year 11 to an interview situation. By bringing in members from local businesses to interview pupils who have been preparing to present themselves for their dream job, pupils can enjoy a taste of real life, preparing them for later situations and building their confidence and ability in this simulation setting.
This year, Year 11 pupils who stood out at ‘The Big Interview’ were Ben Porter and Lucy Fields.
The Year 9 pupil who stood out at ‘The Little Interview’ was Max Pennell.
Congratulations to all three who won amazon vouchers and their names on the award itself.
Branch Manager Crawford will be lending his support as an interviewer at the beginning of July when ‘The Interview’ event will be run for year 10 students.
