The beginnings of Mackenzie Smith
Mackenzie Smith was founded in 1992 by experienced and entrepreneurial Estate Agents Ed Mackenzie Smith and Stephen Tetlow.
Working together in the property industry since 1978, Ed and Stephen had a vision of how Estate Agency should be and decided they wanted to build a Company in the Fleet and surrounding areas specialising in the sale and letting of residential property, land and new homes; to offer all clients the best possible service and of course to ensure they achieved the result each client required.
With an in depth background in selling and letting property and new homes in Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey, founding members Ed and Stephen were and continue to be ideally suited to lead Mackenzie Smith Estate Agents.
How we have grown
Having recently celebrated our 25th anniversary, Mackenzie Smith has grown from one high street estate agent office in Fleet opening in 1992, weathering the ups and downs of the property market and economy over the years, to now boasting an independent network of 5 high street branches; Farnborough from 1994, Hook from 1997, Ash Vale from 2002, Hartley Wintney in 2003 (established as Martyn Russell in 1991) and Yateley in 2017.
It’s not only our geographic reach which has grown. The industry has changed a great deal over the past 22 years, a black and white set of property details and a window card would not cut it in today’s highly competitive property market. As well as our high street showrooms, we now offer up to the minute marketing, a comprehensive presence on key property websites and use email and social media marketing to proactively promote property online.
As much as the Estate Agency world has changed, the core skills of estate agents are still relevant; providing accurate advice, tenaciously working through our database of applicants to find the right buyer, skilfully negotiating a sale, communicating regularly with our client and then diligently following up and doing everything we can to ensure the sale goes through smoothly and our client can enjoy as stress free a process as possible.

All properties are marketed through our network of local offices using high performance software, ensuring property for sale and to let is matched against the entire Mackenzie Smith database of applicants allowing us to smoothly manage the marketing of the property, the viewing process and sales progression with full individual accountability.
Having a strong group of offices in the area, staffed by an experienced Branch Manager with the oversight of our Sales Director, and supported by an equally capable team of Senior Client Managers and Negotiators, means we have true local knowledge putting us in a good position to advise our clients on value and strategy as well as issues from schooling and amenities to transport links.
An Independent Network
As an Independent Estate Agency we retain our integrity as a dynamic, unconstrained company who can out-perform some of our larger competitors by applying our real local market knowledge and accurate advice on the market and property values.
There is a great deal of interaction between our five branches as we operate in a highly active, but relatively local area in Hampshire, Surrey and Berkshire, our offices are located between, and either side of, junction 4 and 6 of the M3 corridor in Fleet, Hartley Wintney, Hook, Farnborough, Yateley and Ash Vale.
Each town and village has its unique characteristics, that’s why each of our offices focuses on its immediate surrounding area, the staff are expert in knowing their ‘patch’ intricately which makes all the difference when the importance of accurate, straight forward advice is paramount.
Mackenzie Smith also have one of the most reputable, experienced and respected land departments in the area, predominantly dealing with land for residential redevelopment, from a small single plot site to option agreements of over 30 acres. Mackenzie Smith Land department have been bringing quality opportunities to the market for the last 20 years with our clients benefitting from our complete understanding of planning policy and property values, experienced specialist knowledge, tenacity, energy and drive.
